Your Creative Intentions: The Monday Post ~ June 22, 2015

Wallace Stevens quote

A regular creative practice — a daily practice, if possible — is key to staying in touch with how you make meaning. Key to living, not postponing. (Let’s all agree to give up on “someday.”)

What are your plans for creative practice this week? Given the specifics of your schedule, decide on a realistic intention or practice plan — and ink that time in your calendar. The scheduling part is important, because as you know, if you try to “fit it in” around the edges, it generally won’t happen. An intention as simple as “I will write for 20 minutes every morning after breakfast” or “I will sketch a new still life on Wednesday evening” is what it’s all about. If appropriate, use time estimates to containerize your task, which can make a daunting project feel more accessible.

Share your intentions or goals as a comment to this post, and let us know how things went with your creative plans for last week, if you posted to last week’s Monday Post. We use a broad brush in defining creativity, so don’t be shy. We also often include well-being practices that support creativity, such as exercise and journaling.

Putting your intentions on “paper” helps you get clear on what you want to do — and sharing those intentions with this community leverages the motivation of an accountability group. Join us!

  1. I continue to struggle with reinstating my early morning practice! Also adjusting to the summer schedule. Lots of appointments and running around last week, which really ate into my work time.

    On the bright side, completed the outline for my upper left arm sleeve (tattoo) and went out several times with friends–so much filling of the well, despite the lack of productivity.

    Last week’s plan:
    * Daily writing sessions, 5:00 am [did the writing, but not that early]
    * Daily/evening planning [partly but not enough]
    * Daily journaling [not daily]
    * Exercise at least 5x [yes, x6]
    * 30 hours client billables [yet again no, only 11!]

    This week’s plan:
    * Daily writing sessions before 3:00 pm
    * Daily/evening planning
    * Daily journaling
    * Exercise at least 5x (walk or yoga)
    * 30 hours client billables

      I learn so much about adjusting the goals parameters from you by seeing slight changes that will go with the flow but not give up, like adjusting the timing on writing.

    worked on two year old paper pile, embarrassing I know, but I recycled 50 or more peices of paper.

    this week
    work on my weekly list of to dos , revised daily
    take an early morning walk
    excersise 3xs with some sit ups worked in there, and leg scissors
    make a watermelon mint salad
    scrape off paint from pallette
    do an hour of studio organizing
    go to meet up group and make recycled tote with daughter.
    arrange rice paper on mixed media piece.
    deliver 6 drawings to next show -a must, travel hour down, hour back
    pack up another drawing to mail to sil , wow ,she bought one! I can’t get paid if I don’t deliver so I need to do it this week.

    I like your site and enjoyed your Monday approach. As an artist, creative lady, I feel I must create something everyday. That sounds crazy but it keeps me on track and gives me purpose. I will stop by again and hop others will check out my new blog, The Queen Studio. Let’s get this party started. Hugs🌹
