“Leap, and the net will appear.”
~John Burroughs

The beginning of a new year is a wonderful reason to pick NOW as the moment to develop your regular creativity practice. Regularity — a daily practice, if at all possible — is key.

So what are your plans for creative practice this week? Given the specifics of your schedule, decide on a realistic goal or a milestone to reach for — and plan that time in your calendar. A goal as simple as “I will be creative for 10 minutes every day” or “I will gesso three canvases on Wednesday” is what it’s all about.

Share your goal(s) as a comment to this post, and let us know how things went with your creative plans for last week, if you posted to last week’s Monday Post.

  1. Last week:
    – Yoga [1X] – Yes, 3X
    – XC Ski [3X] – well, 1X
    – Read/research Grow Biointensive gardening method [TINY BIT]
    – Begin design for portable 4-season hoop tunnel greenhouse [TINY BIT]
    – Assess 2011 accomplishments/plan 2012 goals [NO]
    – Try to make it to Wednesday open house at Open Studio! [NO]

Well, the good news is that I’m getting into a yoga rhythm, and no back pain. And I wrote a blog post. I think I’ll aim for 1 blog post a week, more if I have inspired material. But not just doing it for the sake of doing it. I really like the process or reflecting/writing so don’t want to lose that.

Next week, in order of importance:
    – Yoga [3X]
    – XC Ski if it snows
    – Assess 2011 accomplishments/plan 2012 goals
    – Clean sewing area and finish husband’s yoga shirt
    – Bottle up herbal syrups
    – 1 blog post
    – Try to make it to Wednesday open house at Open Studio
    – Calculate cost of herbal immunity kits
    – Read/research Grow Biointensive gardening method
    – Continue design for portable 4-season hoop tunnel greenhouse

I’ll stop there, the list could go on and on!

  2. I drew every day in January (so far) except yesterday. Not too bad, not too bad at all. This past week I met a lot of my goals and mostly kept up with the daily habits that I am trying to incorporate into my life. So that our lives run a little smoother and our house is more pleasant to live in.

Goal for this week: it’s all about the daily habits. Here they are (in order of importance):
    1. Daily drawing minimum 15 minutes
    2. 15 minute general clean-up around house
    3. 15 minutes daily paperwork/finances
    4. 1 load of laundry, wash, dry, fold and put away.
    5. 15 minutes of zone cleaning (focus on one room at a time)
    6. 5-10 minutes of menu planning

Doesn’t sound so creative, does it, except for number one. Except that the others all make number 1 possible. What’s not listed here? Every morning I get up at 5 or so and journal for 1/2 hour, then hit the yoga mat. This is pretty much non-negotiable, just what I need to maintain my sanity. I hate when this doesn’t happen, so I organize my schedule and go to bed early most nights to make it happen. This week I’ll have to set my alarm, as I seem to be sleeping later the last few days.

Oh yes, one more goal- working on a new yoga sequence for my class and for a private client, my very first. And I already have a 2nd client lined up! It’s funny how life works sometimes. My teaching is evolving as well, and I’m spending less time demonstrating poses and more time watching my students and learning how they practice and what they need to learn. Developing my teacher’s eyes, really seeing. It’s eye-opening and fascinating.

    -i shall exercise 5 days … yes….
    -i shall finish 3 pieces … yes … finished four actually …..
-i shall start nine backgrounds (that’s my happiest, favorite, easiest part)… started three or four …. and am nearly finished within another piece … put in tons of painting time ….
-i shall not care if i do no studio cleaning and will be nice to myself about it and ok if i don’t get to it til after the show i’m prepping for … i guess i was nice to myself … i did do some tidying as i worked in the studio …. i did a ton of show prep ….

also last week, i sold two large paintings that were on my inventory for the show coming up … so i really should do two more large to replace them in the show ….

  5. i was wrong about the week last week, my writing group meets tomorrow… i did put in a couple of sessions to the manuscript. more or less effective, one more, one less. 🙂 got some blogs in among the mayhem. wrote a book review earlier today and posted that. seems to be getting a decent amount of hits, too. wrote a poem in a notebook that i think is still in my vaaaannn…should find, edit and post. baked a cake.

this week’s goals: one good editing session at writing group tomorrow. play catch up on house. my little part time job has turned nearly full time and i haven’t quite figured out how to make everything work just yet. so yes, tomorrow, edit! and see what else happens by chance this week.
