“Nurturing your own creative spirit will not only bring more peace, satisfaction, and joy into your life and the lives of those around you, but it will also serve as a guide and model to your children on finding their creative lives.”
~Amanda Blake Soule

What are your plans for creative practice this week?
Given the specifics of your schedule, decide on a realistic goal or a milestone to reach for. A goal as simple as “I will be creative for 10 minutes every day” is what it’s all about. Share your goal(s) as a comment to this post, and let us know how things went with your creative plans for last week, if you posted to last week’s Monday Post.

Suggestion: When you’re deciding on your creative intentions, it’s a good idea to think about WHEN you’re going to write those 2,000 words or paint that canvas. Try to schedule the time slots in your calendar (if you keep one), understanding that flexibility may be required. If things don’t happen when you wanted them to, that’s OK. Give yourself a gentle push with one hand, but pat yourself kindly on the shoulder with the other if you don’t reach your goal for a given week. Sometimes it’s easier, sometimes it’s harder. Ride whatever you’ve got.

It’s also useful to have a sense of your minimum requirements (come hell or high water I’m going to write 100 words) while keeping a lookout for sudden opportunities to do more. You know, the day that the baby takes a monster nap or your partner takes the kids out to run errands and you find yourself with an unexpected “extra” half hour. Grab that time for yourself. You can catch up on the dishes and the laundry later. If you keep something creative in the back of your mind for those sudden opportunities, you’ll be more likely to use them to your advantage — rather than squandering your precious bonus moments on Facebook or vacuuming out the sofa cushions.

What time are you aiming to get up for a.m. yoga? I’m having trouble getting up myself, but if I knew someone else was getting up at the same time, I might hop out of bed and onto the yoga mat in a more timely fashion :-/

  4. WELL!! This is the week when I have three whole mornings entirely to myself….one child in summer school and one in preschool camp. 😀

Today I have to go to my day job, but I am going to make a list of beads to make, and necklace/earring/bracelet ideas for this week’s construction projects!

Tuesday morning is to be completely devoted to as much torchwork as I can stand (2 to 2.5 hours). I have a ton of bead ideas in my head all clamoring to be made.

Wednesday I will saw out some copper for pendants, design and paint them, set up the etching bath for those pendants, and run the kiln with Tuesday’s beads..

Thursday is for reconnecting with a friend, and making at least four pairs of earrings and some simple necklaces.

On Friday, I will steal a few minutes to finish necklaces in prep for a market on Saturday morning.

  5. Last week I DID EVERYTHING! YES!
    3 blog posts
a 20-page e-book (with hilariously awesome photos) for the Goddess Circle
a dancing video to go with the e-book
my Dancing Mamas Tribe session which was the most successful yet (which is a nice way of saying that someone showed up this time :P)

I’m super-excited, because that was my first-ever e-book and first-ever video. YES! And they weren’t as scary as I thought they would be! Such an incredible week! …But now the house is a wreck and I am 2 weeks behind on World Changing Writing Workshop AGAIN. But hey, WORTH IT. Today is catch-up day.

    So…this week…
    3 blog posts
    Catch up on WCWW
Do something (ANYTHING) for my new (top secret) website
Make 2 playlists for next weekend’s Dancing Mamas
(If the stars align) work with my husband to create some t-shirt designs for Cafepress and order samples

I also feel like I need to take some time and look at the rest of the summer and what I want to accomplish in the long term…just get some perspective. I feel a distinct sense of magical possibility in the air, and it makes me SO HAPPY! 😀

    • Hi Deb! Re last week’s item #4, your plan *does* seem to be working, even if it doesn’t feel like a plan! You’re stating your intentions weekly and then getting to your creative work. No worries if you don’t get to everything on your list, every week — none of us do, after all — but you’re figuring out how to be regularly creative and make progress on your bigger goals — maybe you can put a checkmark next to #4 after all? 🙂
