Your Creative Intentions: The Monday Post ~ March 24, 2014

Danielle LaPorte quote

A regular creative practice — a daily practice, if possible — is key to staying in touch with how you make meaning. Key to living, not postponing. (Let’s all agree to give up on “someday.”)

What are your plans for creative practice this week? Given the specifics of your schedule, decide on a realistic intention or practice plan — and ink that time in your calendar. The scheduling part is important, because as you know, if you try to “fit it in” around the edges, it generally won’t happen. An intention as simple as “I will write for 20 minutes every morning after breakfast” or “I will sketch a new still life on Wednesday evening” is what it’s all about. If appropriate, use time estimates to containerize your task, which can make a daunting project feel more accessible.

Share your intentions or goals as a comment to this post, and let us know how things went with your creative plans for last week, if you posted to last week’s Monday Post. We use a broad brush in defining creativity, so don’t be shy. We also often include well-being practices that support creativity, such as exercise and journaling.

Putting your intentions on “paper” helps you get clear on what you want to do — and sharing those intentions with this community leverages the motivation of an accountability group. Join us!

  1. By the time I finish my whole-house editing and divesting project, I don’t think I’ll own a single thing that doesn’t fall into the extremely useful or extremely fabulous category. Every day, I feel lighter and lighter. Amazing.

    • Wow, Crystal — I *love* that kind of synchronicity. Danielle’s books are AWESOME. As in, life-changing. Highly recommended! 🙂

      • Thanks for the recommendation – I think her books are calling me – the tab is still open in my window from last night… meant to be 🙂

  3. I’ve made a commitment to myself to paint every Friday on my day off. I have scheduled a time right after I drop off my son at school. I have to plan carefully, though, and have my canvas prepared and a composition planned out so that I can just dive in immediately. All dumb household duties can wait till later!

    • Love this, sbhansen! How’s it going?

      • If I don’t plan it well, I have a hard time getting it done. For instance, if I get too busy and my canvas isn’t prepared during the week, I’ll have to prepare it on my “paint day”, Friday, then I can’t really paint on it until it dries. The house is a pit, a pig stye, a gross teenage-boy dirt hive. I ignore as much as I can while still passing the Mom’s FDA approval.;) Thanks for asking!! It’s so fun to blog and FB and get other people involved. It holds us a little more accountable and energizes us all, don’t you think?

      • I agree! Accountability is so important. That’s the idea behind the Monday Post! 😀
