“You finally do have to give something terribly intimate and secret of yourself to the world and not care, because you have to believe that what you have to say is important enough.” ~May Sarton

This is the moment to deepen, or commit to, your regular creativity practice. Regularity — a daily practice, if at all possible — is key.

So what are your plans for creative practice this week? Given the specifics of your schedule, decide on a realistic intention, goal, or a milestone to reach for — and plan that time in your calendar. An intention as simple as “I will be creative for 10 minutes every day” or “I will gesso three canvases on Wednesday” is what it’s all about.

Share your intentions or goals as a comment to this post, and let us know how things went with your creative plans for last week, if you posted to last week’s Monday Post.

  1. Oh dear, I missed last week. And my daily drawing project has slipped a bit as well.
last week, I wrote at least one blog entry for both of my blogs. I drew/ made something 4 (maybe 5?) days out of 7. Slipping on the daily habits as well but trying to keep my head above water. This is the place I’ve been before where a small slip can lead to a month of inattention, but I’m learning to catch myself. Here is me, catching myself. I also worked on a very short nonfiction piece, The Leather Purse. Journaled 6 out of 7 days as well.
Oh yes, I did order 3 16X20 cradled gessobord panels so that I could begin the larger versions of the backbending series I have been working on for about 6 weeks now. I have lots of small versions and I do believe it’s time to work a little larger.

    This week:
    1. Reset button, get back to the 5 daily habits that are the cornerstone of keeping my life on track. Even if I can’t do them all everyday, a minimum of 3 keeps the chaos at bay. Make a chart for this week and stick to it.
    2. Daily journaling
    3. Yoga 6 days
    4. Walk with dog 5 days
    5. Work on Energy Rising for blog post and nonfiction writers group
    6. Blog about the daily drawing 2-3 times

  2. I am in the midst of the perfect storm of my daughter’s upcoming birthday and all that I want to do for that coupled with a greatly increased workload at work. Something has to give, and I fear it will have to be exercise or sleep, both of which I am loathe to give up. So I am committed to staying on a tight schedule this week so I can get everything done. The birthday prep will be a lovely exercise in all things herbal and fairies, so I am using that as my creative practice for the next 2 weeks!

    Last week:
    -Yoga [3X] – YES – 3X
    – Run [2x] – YES – 3X
    – Blog posts [2X] YES – 5X
    – Start building hoophouse – YES! IT’S 90% built!!! My engineering opus 🙂
    – Make skirt for daughter’s birthday present – NO
    – Make skin cream for friend – YES

    This week:
    -Yoga [3X]
    – Run [3x]
    – Blog posts [3X]
    – Make skirt for daughter’s birthday present

p.s. I love this week’s quote. “Putting myself out there” is not my strong suit, but I am beginning to understand that there are immense opportunities for growth by doing so.

  3. Planning to enjoy every minute of the unbelievable weather in New England this week! Hopefully the sunshine will help me sort out the lingering effects of daily savings time, which for some reason whacked me hard this year.

  4. i think i’ve been absent a bit…hectic.

i didn’t make it here yesterday, but i wanted to let y’all know….today i typed the last period of Draft Three of the book I’ve been working on for Ages. next step: query letters after my writing group and a couple of others take a final gander. so my creative goals at the moment are going to have more to do with gardening, working on my milk paint the little one’s big girl bedframe and other (straighten the house) projects.
