Monday Post ~ March 5, 2012

“I believe in guided spontaneity. For this, the poet must always have some reserves…of words, sounds, or images, the ones that buzz right past us like bees. They must be caught quickly and put away in one’s pocket.” ~Pablo Neruda

This is the moment to deepen, or commit to, your regular creativity practice. Regularity — a daily practice, if at all possible — is key.

So what are your plans for creative practice this week? Given the specifics of your schedule, decide on a realistic intention, goal, or a milestone to reach for — and plan that time in your calendar. An intention as simple as “I will be creative for 10 minutes every day” or “I will gesso three canvases on Wednesday” is what it’s all about.

Share your intentions or goals as a comment to this post, and let us know how things went with your creative plans for last week, if you posted to last week’s Monday Post.

  3. I’m new here. Found it via pinterest. It is just a lucky instance of happenstance, as I’ve just finished my daughter’s 5th birthday party which was a marathon of crafty action, and now I want to get back to myself, the writing, the blogging, the painting. I wrote a blog post for the first time in months, and I hope to blog 5 days this week. I’d also like to journal every day. It doesn’t sound like very much creativity, but I know I need to start slow after being stopped. But yes, I need to get my creative practice going again.

    • Wonderful to have you here, Rowena! Starting slow is the best idea — small, steady, daily practice….. Please let us know how it goes!

  4. Clearly I spent too much time this winter reading fiction novels and watching Downton Abbey because I am way behind on the garden planning. The other problem is that I am having a current love affair of all things herbal, and am spending a lot of time reading about herbalism. However, in the long run this will save me time, because many of the herbs I am learning about grow as weeds in my yard and garden. Who needs to plan a garden when it’s already been done for me?? Now THAT’S permaculture.

    Last week:
    – Yoga [4X] – 2X, took a break for 2 days of skiing
    – Journal [3X] – 1X
    – Blog posts [2X] – YES, 3X
    – Order/buy hoophouse materials so I can get that baby in the ground and plant some seeds! [NO, the truth is I hate to shop and to spend money, two big strikes against achieving this goal. Sillly, really.]
    – Start vegetable/medicinal herb garden planting plan – NO

    This week:
    -Yoga [3X]
    -Journal [2X]
    -Blog posts [2X]
    -Hoophouse materials
    -Seed order
    -start seedlings

    • lol…if your weeds turn out to be your crops, that will definitely shorten your Monday Post entries! Too funny….

  5. Omigosh, is it wednesday already? Lately I am frustrated with the tiny increments of time that I have available for art. Fifteen minutes is such a tease. Several days this week I have gone over, neglecting other tasks like dinner and laundry as a result.
    Goals for this week:
    1. Keep my head above water- my to do list makes my head spin and the only thing that keeps that in check is the 6 daily habits I have set out for myself. Even if I do half of them, life is better.
    2. Keep drawing daily (part of the six daily habits) and posting on the blog
    3. Add final touches to a nonfiction piece on daily drawing 🙂
    4. Teach first private yoga class this week
    5. Prep for meeting with artists for next exhibit at the library
    6. Time to get on the yoga mat- see you next week!
