Creative Construction is now Studio Mothers!
I admit that I never really cared for the name Creative Construction. I think it was the alliteration that appealed to me as I struggled to find a WordPress name that was available. Last year, I purchased the domain name StudioMothers.com, knowing that I eventually wanted to migrate the blog to that URL. Turns out that the migration wasn’t difficult at all — and now we have a name that better describes who we are. I’m thrilled. Celebrate!

Well, the name Studio Mothers certainly makes me feel at home (even though my actual “studio” these days consists of a portion of the living-room floor, since my desk is piled so high with crap I cannot actually make art there). I’m d to know how the writers here feel about the new name?
I’ve been catching up with September/October posts after a long time away. How to deal with the ever-growing number of blogs in my Google Reader? Fretting about this inevitably leads me to drop out of the blogging community, at least in terms of comment and interaction, for months at a time. But I’m now reminded of how much I value this site, for the honesty of what is written here, the mutual support, wisdom and helpful discussion found in the comments section, and the quality of the writing contributed.

I do hope that writers don’t feel left out by “Studio Mothers.” My intention is to speak to all “artist” mothers, using the word artist in a very broad sense. I think that “studio” speaks clearly to painters, potters, jewelry makers, fabric artists, glass blowers, photographers, musicians, dancers, and so on. Of course, many artists have just a little scrap of table in a room otherwise devoted to a different purpose — but I hope that the new name imparts the importance of claiming your studio (a room of one’s own) even if that “room” is just a corner of kitchen counter.
Writers are obviously less likely to describe their work space as a “studio,” so I hope that the name does not feel alienating. Ultimately, I had to choose from a the narrow pool of available domains, and I was pleased to secure this one. For me, it speaks to the studio in the mind. I also think the word is much more romantic and evocative than “office” 🙂
I’m curious to hear more feedback — writers? Do you feel like the word “studio” applies only to visual artists? Of course, you’re stuck with the name for the time being, but go ahead and share your $.02!

ps studio works for me: dance studio, music studio, pottery studio, paint studio, sculpture studio, studio apartment and writing studio. of course i’m a looong way from that studio apartment…

I do feel a little alienated by the name “studio” because it just feels foreign to what I do, but I’ll get used to the idea. The whole purpose of this website is to grow and change our perception of things, right? 🙂
